I did like the story, but the over attention to detail re:opening and closing the car door, the pliers, the match, etc, was a bit much for me. It might do well to have a bit of editing to take out the slightly too much description. I think it might make the emotional impact of the story stronger. Not bad for a freebie on the Kindle.
A decent read. Oct 04, Jill rated it it was ok. For a short story, this was actually too long. The plot idea was great and the two paragraphs of the epilogue were fine, but the bulk of the writing was filled with irrelevant and mundane details. For example, it does not further the plot to describe placing one's left hand on the steering wheel while shifting into gear with the right hand.
The excess descriptions removed any sense of suspense and urgency from the story. I felt like I was reading a school assignment that had a word-count minimum For a short story, this was actually too long.
I felt like I was reading a school assignment that had a word-count minimum. There is potential for an excellent tale here, but it needs a lot of editing. Sep 06, Kay Oliver rated it liked it. This was a decent, mild horror read. It would have kept my attention more if it had complete, grammatically correct sentences and less shallow detail.
I would have enjoyed more story of the characters and their emotions. Luckily, this is short, because what with tangled verb tenses and no apparent sense of what a paragraph is, this is a tough read. Every single action by the protagonist doesn't need to be thoroughly described. No thrills here. Mar 19, Jaimee rated it really liked it. To be honest, I expected "The Ghost of Birch River Cabin" to be a spooky horror story about a ghost haunting a cabin and those who stayed in it.
I was wrong, however, and while it was not what I expected, it was still very good indeed! The story starts out by telling the reader of an incident that happened with one of the cabin's past inhabitants. After that incident, it then moves onto focusing on Paul, a fisherman looking forward to a peaceful stay at the cabin.

However, it soon app To be honest, I expected "The Ghost of Birch River Cabin" to be a spooky horror story about a ghost haunting a cabin and those who stayed in it. However, it soon appears that his stay may be less than peaceful on account of a dangerous storm berating the cabin. The writing by this author was overall quite good maintains exciting moments. As for the genre, I found it to be more of an action adventure than horror. Overall, this was quite a good short story.
It wasn't scary like I expected it to be, but the ghost introduced in the book was still very interesting. I would recommend this story to those who enjoy an adventurous read. As for the story itself, the idea was strong and could have been quite enjoyable if not for all the details. As much as I enjoy detailed descriptions of places and people this story had neither. It did however have details about opening the car door, closing the car door behind him, lifting up on the handle so he could open the door, getting in the car and closing the door behind him I don't need someone to tell me how to open a car door, we all know you pull up on the handle.
It is to be assu As for the story itself, the idea was strong and could have been quite enjoyable if not for all the details. It is to be assumed that when you are getting out of a car that you're going to open the door. This entire story was detailed well beyond what was needed and was very distracting. It actually ruined what could have been a great story.
